The vast majority of vehicles/engines will benefit from replacing a standard spark plug with an Iridium spark plug.

WILL AN IRIDIUM SPARK PLUG BE BENEFICIAL FOR MY PARTICULAR ENGINE?

Improved economy (though this depends largely on how much you enjoy the improved throttle response!).This is beneficial in several ways:Ī lower voltage is required, this reduces load on a vehicle's ignition system (less strain = less chance of failure)Ī larger gap can be supported without increasing load on the ignition system (Larger gap = larger spark = more efficient combustion)Ī more precise spark every time, delivered in the correct position and with the correct timing (More efficient combustion)Īssuming a suitable Iridium plug is available, benefits you are most likely to see are: The narrow diameter concentrates the electrical charge and therefore a much lower voltage is required to jump the spark gap. The result is that an Iridium electrode can be manufactured with an extremely small diameter, when compared to a traditional copper or even a platinum tipped electrode, without compromising the useful life of the electrode or spark plug. An Iridium alloy electrode is able to deliver good conductivity and extreme hardness. Pure Iridium is difficult to work with, very brittle and does not have great electrical conductivity hence alloys are used to give the best combination of these properties. Since late in the 20th century Iridium has been used in alloy form as material of choice for construction of Spark plug and industrial igniter electrodes. Other than it's hardness, the main property which makes Iridium attractive as an electrode material for spark plugs is its extremely high melting point (almost 2,500 deg C). Make sure you check the gappimg on these plugs because boy were they way off and not the easyiest to regap to the right spec.Iridium is an extremely hard metallic element, related to platinum, which is thought to occur on earth primarily due to an enormous meteor impact millions of years ago. I honestly don' t know why everybody wants the Denso' s, the NGKs are just as good. Just installed a new set and they have been great. I originally bought these about 2 years ago simply because the Denso' s were on back order. I choose NGK because they were suggested to me by my peers and they are readily available! I haven' t heard anything bad about the DENSO' s but that might be because nobody can ever find them! NGK' s run smoother and colder allowing your speedy investment to remain in its best shape or a long time. Once you go one step colder, you' re back to 2 choices: NGK or DENSO. Stock heat range and one step colder for those of us who are tuned. In the world of turbocharged Mazda' s there are 2 choices of plugs. 5 The only plug you should run in a tuned MS3.I hope the NGK' s last more than 15k, but then again I like working on the speed3 so we' ll see My denso' s lasted 15k miles before iridium tips wore down on a few - noticed when engine ran rougher and little more knock. Also, their construction is more sturdy.thicker ground electrode (more difficult to gap, but possible) and I like how the iridium tip is stepped down in size differently than Denso (seems sturdier). Well, I think they seem a little smoother in operation than the Denso. I was happy with the Denso plugs but also thought I would try the NGK, just for kicks. Replaced Denso itv-22' s with these NGK. Posted by Jonathan Brooks on Oct 24th 2013 If you have done manybperfoma ce up grades is a Must just maje sire they are gap the right way for your application They also sent me stickers to promo brand as asked. Be sure to not use a round gap for these. I' ve always been a fan of NGK on any foreign application. Posted by Emmanuel Alvarez on Sep 16th 2014Ĭame packaged well and shipped fast. Went up to stage 2 on my speed3 and these made all the difference, the car idles and pulls much smoother now. Went big turbo and Freektune told me these were the only ones I could use. Really happy with the plugs, I feel like it' s made a difference and will be better for the amount of driving I do to have a step colder than OEM.
